Claim settlement history that people would want to know (like the experience with respect to claims, delays in making payment after complete documents have been provided) are not easily available.


Claim settlement ratio is something that is available and widely promoted, talked about by insurance companies and intermediaries alike. In our view Claim Settlement Ratio too is not worth looking at or comparing. It does not reflect whether a valid claim or a claim in grey area was rejected or delayed. It will simply provide a very simplistic measurement of how many claims were paid against received - no real value you can get from such information.


In this scenario, we recommend that you focus on things in your control


1. Ensure you make detailed declarations when buying a insurance plan.

2. Ensure you read the proposal form well and answer questions diligently.

3. Ensure you have understood the terms and conditions of the policy
