Bike theft claim pending for acknowledgement of police complaint

I've a two wheeler insurance policy HDFC Ergo. On 26-06-2021, my bike was missing and I gave an intimation letter at the local police on the same date but I was not given any acknowledgement. Later on 10-07-2021, the police gave an official acknowledgement and registered a case regarding the same.


The insurer has put the claim on hold and asking me to provide an acknowledgement of the complaint given to the police on 26-06-2021 but I'm unable to get it from the police station as they are saying that since we've already given you the official complaint/case acknowledgement letter dt. 10-07-2021, we'll not give anything else.


Please advise.

The complaint registered by the police should have reference of your letter dt. 26.06.2021. That is sufficient proof that you have intimated the loss to the police promptly. That should be enough for the insurer to proceed if the police is not giving a separate acknowledgment for the original complaint. If the insurer is processing based on that, you can escalate the matter to the customer grievance dept., and if nothing happens, approach Ombudsman for suitable orders.
