Can Pre-existing Diseases be Covered from Day One in Group Health Insurance?
My father is a cardiac patient. He has undergone his bypass. My mother is blood pressure patient. Let's say, I join a large company that has a corporate health insurance or group health insurance that I can avail. Will my Mother & my Father be covered for their respective pre-existing diseases I mentioned above, from day 1? Or just like an individual health insurance plan, they will have a waiting period of 3-4 yrs or even face permanent exclusion?
In group plans they'll be yes, however be aware of the limitations of group plans in regards to coverage of high value treatments and sub limits.
Even though your father is a cardiac patient there can be plans that cover him after a waiting period of just one year and without co payment based on nature of cardiac incidence.
Always advised to cover parents first comprehensively under a pvt plan than relying solely on corporate cover as they are ltd to the period of your employment.
Dear Umang
It all depends on how the group is formed and generally PED has no waiting period on the basis of mean age and median age .
If mean she is over 40 , theh conditions of PED and waiting period may apply .
Your parents will be included through application and disclosure will be necessary. Insirance company maybrrguse entry or put conditions.
It is not so simple for invited members .
Hope this clarifies
Hi Umang,
Corporate plans are tailor made plans and are made according to requirements of the corporate.
Usually the corporates opt for PED coverage from day 1 without any restrictions, if the company that you join is offering such policy and covering your parents then any hospitalisation arising out of these PEDs will be covered without any waiting period unlike retail plans.
