Coverage after waiting period

Hi,

I have a policy for parents and will complete 4 years soon. BP was diagnosed 2 years back but I couldn't report back then due to lack of understanding.

I hav reported now. So question is will it still be covered or a fresh waiting period will be applicable?

Hi Niket,

If Hypertension was first diagnosed after policy inception, it will not be treated as a pre-existing disease. So your health insurance will provide for BP related claims. Hope I have been able to convey my point. Feel free to ask if you have any follow up questions.

Thanks Asad for your reply. I missed pointing out that I don't have the first prescription copy. Along with that the doctor who was prescribing medicine was a govt doctor and I can't reach out to him.

So what are my options in this case?

P.S: I have already mentioned this to insurer

You can tell the Insurer that BP was first diagnosed only 2 years back & that you have missed the prescription. Even if they treat BP as existing ab initio, it will get coverage now as you have completed 4 continuous years of health insurance. I don't believe even loading should be applied in your case. If they offer you a loading amount, represent yourself and fight it out.
