DEATH CLAIM AT 2 PLACES
Dear Sir:
Recently while renewing my car insurance policy at TATA AIG ( earlier at Royal Sundaram) , came to know that , if the car owner has term insurance more than 15lakh cover , he no need to opt for life cover in car insurance , because , it can not be claimed at both places. claim can be taken from term insurance policy ( obviously higher amount ) . Is this right ? Is there any reference/guidelines from IRDAI on this .
Eventhough it is a matter of Rs.400 additional premium , what is the reality ?
Will be grateful to know this .
thank you
Best Regards

Although PA or Personal Accident and term plan looks similar but actually differ from each other. First of all the cover provided by general insurance company is fixed for 15 lakh which might not be sufficient cover for one having higher source of income. secondly Personal accident insurance is useful to get the financial assistance to you and your family in the event of an accident that leads to death, bodily injuries, temporary total disability, permanent total disability and permanent partial disability. In the event of death, the insurance company will pay 100% compensation (equal to the sum assured) to the appointed nominee. Also, the insurance companies offer compensation for an accident disability such as loss of speech, limbs and eyes, Where as term plan is paid to nominee on death of insured person only.
To add last point if u r having one PA cover for a vehicle on u r name then u can avoid same while having insurance for other vehicle on your name.
Hi
Both Term Insurance and PErsonal Accident Cover Provided with Car insurance are 2 different things. There is no correlation between them. Also there is no any clause which states that if you have term Insurnce you can't claim on your Motor insurance.
But if you have adequate term insurance cover than no need to go for that PA owner/driver cover provided with car insurance as it is limited to that car only.
Dear Lokeh ji,
As per SC order one has to have a personal accident policy worth 15 Lacs. This could be a policy that you would have bought on your own or along with your vehicle insurance. A term policy is seprate and nothing to do with motor insurance.
You need not opt for this PA cover if
1) person in whose name the vehicle is registered does not hold a valid driving licence
2) the person in whose name the vehicle is registered also has any other vehicle registered in his/her name and the motor policy with it already has a PA cover.
I hope this clarifies your doubt.
