Declaration of present health condition
Hi All,
I am 40 years old and recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I have a family floater health insurance from star since June 2013, please advise should I declare my present condition to Star and how to move forward
regarding the same.
Hello Prashanth,
Pre existing diseases are the ones which are known to the policy holder before buying the policy.
Any illness diagnosed after buying the policy may not be necessarily intimated to the insurance company.
At the time of claim, the insurance company can ask for first consultation paper of Diabetes. So, retain the same with policy documents for smooth claim experience.
Thanks

Just to add, All health policies issued on or after 01.10.2020 have moratorium period clause which reads as follows:
After completion of eight continuous years under the policy no look back to be applied. This period of eight years is called as moratorium period. The moratorium would be applicable for the sums insured of the first policy and subsequently completion of eight continuous years would be applicable from date of enhancement of sums insured only on the enhanced limits.
After the expiry of Moratorium Period no health insurance claim shall be contestable except for proven fraud and permanent exclusions specified in the policy contract. The policies would however be subject to all limits, sub limits, co-payments, deductibles as per the policy contract.
So you have a definite advantage of starting early.
You are not under obligation to declare any illness, disease or condition contracted after taking the policy and continuously renewed. Such conditions are covered under the policy as per IRDA regulations. But do keep records of all the policies and medical diagnosis, in case any question arises in future on the same.
