As a pre existing ailment you'll have to serve a waiting period of atleast three years for the same if you go with any well established insurer.

There are new aged insurance cos that reduce this to one year, you may try them. However the minimum waiting period you'll have to serve there is one year.

Unfortunately you cannot get covered for hernia in any new policy as it forms part of 2 year waiting period for almost every retail policy sold in the country.

Apart from hernia, there are many such specified diseases which are part of 2 year waiting period like knee replacement, kidney stone surgery, etc.

You can still check some group policies that banks offer which can cover hernia immediately.

Having said that, it would be important to get yourself covered in an health insurance policy at the earliest even though hernia cannot be covered at the moment. At least you start somewhere for future such issues.
