Health insurance cover-implication due to kidney donation by policy holder
If someone has Oriental insurance- Family Floater Health policy as well as top-up health cover from oriental insurance and wants to voluntarily donate a kidney to a close relative. How should he proceed with the insurance company? What are the implications on his future insurance premium and renewal as well as claim acceptance if he acquires medical issues during the transplant or afterwards as a result of the transplant .
Dear Sanjay
This is a general insurance contract which work on principle of indemnity .
Hence , claim will be subject to review because donation will be considered as self inflicted.
As per my understanding , future claims will be repudiated unless insurer has reissuued tge policy with new disclosures.
Hope this clarifies

The only benefit you'll be able to recieve is get 10% of sum insured as a lumpsum benefit incase you are a donor.
All complications are covered once insurance is in force and regularly renewed by the existing insurer.
The premium will be age adjusted & the health complication will have no bearing on future renewals unless one decides to upgrade the sum insured in which case the insurer might reassess the health risks for the incremental sum insured and levy loading charges if needed, however this differs on case to case basis.
