I am looking to buy a health insurance policy for my mother. She is 95 kgs/61 years of age right now suffering from osteoarthritis & cervical problems (no family history of any serious illness). Please suggest me how should I divide total coverage required for about 25 Lacs between base policy and super top up. I am planning for Health contingency fund of 25 lacs in coming 15 years for her for which i have already started SIP. Considering current health situation please suggest me right coverage with breakup for planning next 30 years.

Dear Ankur

Kudos to you for taking care of your mother .

My answer

1. Due to weight and pre existing diseases of your mother , she may not get super Top up .

2. Go for basic plan with sum assured of Rs 20 lakh keeping in mind your long term planning .

3. To reduce the premium , accept 20% co pay .

4. Look for features like medical tests , waiting period for PED , restore ,exclusions

5. 20 lakh will be good cover for next 30 year .

Hope this clarifies, ask for any clarifications .

Best wishes

Shailesh
