Health Insurance proposal rejection

Hi,
I am asking this on behalf of my friend who recently filled a proposal for a family floater policy with Max Bupa (Health recharge top up). The friend received an e-mail from the insurer saying that a member was 'morbidly obese' and will not be covered. What to do when a health insurer outrightly rejects a proposal fully/partially without caring for loading ?

Hi Clinton,
Ask your friend to try health insurance with a PSU. I have seen they are a little more accommodating & may give you health insurance with a waiting period on obesity related conditions. Worth a try.
Best Wishes,

The decision whether to accept a proposal or not is the prerogative of the insurer based on the underwriting guidelines filed by the insurer with the regulator.
Underwriting guidelines are not expected to be discriminatory in terms of certain things like religion, region, caste, gender etc., based on which an insurer cannot decline a proposal.
However, in terms of risk factors such as obesity, the insurer can decline a proposal. There is no compulsion on the insurer to accept a proposal with loading.
