Dear Experts, My brother(36yrold) is looking to buy himself and his family(2+1) a floater health insurance. His wife has had an internal congenital condition been operated upon 3-4 years back. He tried approaching few health insurers online, but didn't get a favourable response. Could you pls. suggest how can he get a cover for himself and his family. We breathe insurance :)

Hello Vikrant,

  1. What is the exact disease? Can you please share details? What is the current status of the surgery conducted 3-4 years back. Do let us know.
  2. If the surgery has been successful and your sister in law does not suffer from the disease currently, there are better chances of coverage.
  3. If the disease persists, then you will have to try multiple insurers sharing the medical papers and finding out whether they would be interested in covering them. Yes, PSUs can be liberal and more inclusive in their treatment to such cases. You will need to however look for a good local insurance agent who has good experience and track record in health insurance distribution. You can also directly approach the local office, and they will connect you to a development officer or agent.

Hello Vikrant,

1) You need to look for branch offices of government insurers in your area.

2) Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get a cover for a pre-existing disease specially for kidney. We are not aware of any such Critical Illness plan right now.
