Health insurance - Zone 1 or 2
A friend is buying a health insurance and is currently working in Bangalore, however permanent address is of Gurgaon.
So should he go with Zone 2 premium or it is suggested to go with Zone 1?
Later on if he moves to Gurgaon and there is hospitalization, will there be issues with the claim that why Zone 2 premium and hospitalization in Zone 1?
I agree with Pankaj, in crux, you need to buy a policy keeping in mind your present residence, which means, where you are most likely to be hospitalized in case of emergency.
We strongly believe - let's never be untruthful about the facts to the insurance company, only to save few bucks.
Claims are easier that way !
There are two things with zone based premium.
a) The premium is charged as per the zone in which your address falls but there is no co-payment applicable for claims in higher zone.
b) The premium is charged as per the zone in which your address falls and there is co-payment applicable for claims in higher zone.
Obviously, A is better than B. Also otherwise, during renewal, you may change the zone and pay the premium accordingly for the updated zone as per your new address.
Please read the detailed policy wordings w.r.t. the zone based premiums/co-payments and proceed.
Thank you
It is advisable to pay premiums for Zone 1 , if zone-wise pricing exists - it exists for a reason. Repeated hospitalizations in a zone away from the zone where you have paid premiums for can become a difficulty at the time of claim. Usually, the zone-wise price difference is not much depending on the age & the plan. Hence it is advisable to opt for a plan for Delhi.NCR by which the plan becomes PAN INDIA & you remove any future uncertainties & anxieties.
Hi Ravi,
Insurance companies provide 3 Zones according to areas zones are categorised it's for affordability of insurance and cost of treatment will be less in zone 3 compared with zone 2 or Zone 1
If you are sure to stay in same area then go with that zone and if you are traveller then go for Zone 1
In your friend case buying Zone 2 and later on going for hospitalisation in Zone 1 will lead to Co pay
Co pay % will be linked to how much discount your friend received by choosing Zone 2.
Dear Ravi,
Zone I and II are subjective terms and vary based on underwriting guidelines of various insurers. Even categorization of cities under Zone I and II may be different.
You are kindly requested to go through the pricing terms/prospectus of insurer(s) you have shortlisted, in detail, you will get your answer.
Hope this helps.
