Is it mandatory to offer Lifelong Renewal on Health Insurance Policies?

This IRDAI circular suggests that renewal of health insurance policies cannot be refused on the basis of age. Can someone confirm if that is indeed the case? If not, are there any policies that promise this explicitly (like HDFC Optima Restore does)?

Hello Viresh,
Health Insurance renewals cannot be refused on the basis of age, or claims made in the past. As per IRDAI regulations, all health insurance policies are by default renewable for a lifetime - unless a) the insurer is able to detect fraud in the declarations made by the person buying the policy and b) in case the insurer decides to withdraw the policy with due permission from IRDAI.
In case of b) - Insurers are required to provide you an alternative policy nearest in benefits to the withdrawn product without any medical test or proposal form filling (no underwriting)
You don't have to worry about whether it is mentioned or not mentioned in the policy wording of a health insurance product of a particular insurance company.
Hope this clarifies
