Hi Mr.Alok,
Please note that all Health Insurance Companies have started to cover mental illnesses with effect from the year 2018 as per the guidelines issued by IRDAI in line with Mental Health Care Act 2017. However, the following aspects are to be taken into account while we discuss Mental illnesses & the scope of their coverage under Health Insurance Plans:
- Most Health Insurance Plans available in the industry are meant to offer coverage against any hospitalization expenses & hence even in the case of treatments related to mental illness or a psychiatric disorder, coverage shall be applicable only if the member requires such treatment on an in-patient basis (i.e. admission needed for a minimum of 24 hrs & above). The only exceptions are a select few policies that would offer even the Out Patient benefits up to pre-defined limits.
- Such mental illness should not have existed before the policy's inception. This means if the member had any mental illness as pre-existing disease, then getting health insurance cover shall be extremely difficult
As my colleague suggested, we can provide you with specific advice if you could elaborate on this & share further details.
Hope this helps...

Dear Alok,
All companies provide coverage for mental disorders. While some policies have a limit defined others don't.
If the disease is a pre existing condition then it will be a underwriting call.
If you would be more specific to you query a better suggestion might be shared. It however is best to speak with one of Beshak empanelled advisors.
