Policy application rejected due to PED
Hi,
I applied for Max BUPA's Health recharge policy (cover of 95L, 5L deductible) to cover my spouse, children and me. However, the underwriting team has come up with a counter offer saying they will not provide cover for my husband owing to the PED we declared (history of kidney stones, back pain).
Is there any recourse available to us so that they can reconsider their decision? I have already asked them if they would be willing to cover my husband by permanently excluding these PED and/or would like to add loading to the premium quoted.
Thanks
Megha
Dear Megha
Two recommendations
1. Apply separately for your husband in two companies , one public sector and other in Star Health . Let us explore , cancel one plan after both are accepted .
2. Take a plan for self and son as proposed to you .
Hope this clarifies
Thank you both experts for your advice. Yours views are highly appreciated. I will try other providers as the current one has rejected my appeal for reconsideration.
Hi Megha,
It is the underwriter's prerogative to accept or decline an insurance application.
You have taken the right step by asking them to reconsider their decision in lieu of higher premium and permanent exclusion for PEDs. If they decline your offer, you'll have to accept the underwriter's call.
You can try Care Health. Their underwriting is relatively more relaxed.
Best,
Asad
