Porting Guidelines for No-Claim Bonus

reply Share
20 Aug, 2021 by  Ashutosh Chokhani

I have ported my existing policy with SI 10Lakhs + 3 Lakhs NCB from XYZ Company to ABC Company. The base sum insured choosen at ABC Company is 10 Lakhs.

I have mentioned my NCB of 3 Lakhs of existing policy , in proposal form.

Ported policy document does not mention my exisitng NCB bonus as ported to new policy. What is my recourse against the new insurance company ABC?

The NCB or Cumulative Bonus does not carry forward at time of portability.

Dear Ashutosh

The No claim bonus continues to accrue and eligible for claim only in case one continues with the same plan year on year.

The No claim bonus lapses the moment one ports out to a new policy with different insurer and even in case one changes the plan to a different product within the same insurer.

Hope this addresses your concern

Dear Ashutosh,

I agree with Mr. Rohit Dhingra & Ms. Asha. The moment one ports out or migrates to a different plan the no claim bonus lapses. One can't do much about this once ported out to new insurer. This is as per the industry practice.
