Regarding Health Insurance with Spina bifida
Hi Team, I am a 40 year old male with Spina Bifida Occulta. It was detected when I had gone to an ortho for a minor back pain 6 years back. Tethered cord was detected and untethering was done 5 years. Post that I have been carrying out my normal activities. Could you please let me know if health insurance is available for my health profile?
Hey Shyam,
Thanks for your query.
The bad news is that Spina Bifida Occulta is a congenital (birth defect) condition, and as per current underwriting norms, insurers do not offer policies to people detected with congenital condition even if the health condition of customer is fine in the current time.
I think the best solution for you is to set aside a certain amount in a savings or other liquid investment instrument so as to have a financial buffer available at the time of need.

Shyam,
You can try buying Kavach policy from New India's website. You should be able to buy it even with pre-existing medical history.
Hello Shyam,
Health Insurance should be available for you.
You will have to be persistent and keep trying with multiple insurers. We recommend you look for insurance agents who specialize in health insurance (with good track record of managing claims) in your location. You should be able to find one. Such agents are able to navigate you through the right insurance companies who could approve your proposal. Alternatively, as a last resort you must try Govt Insurers and Insurance plans through banks - these companies can look at cases differently.
Hope this helps.
Do let us know if you have any follow up question.
Regards,
Team Beshak.
