Schizophrenia and health insurance
My mother has pre existing condition of Schizophrenia. I am looking for a health insurance. But now I have realised that none of the plans cover her.
Now I am in doubt whether my corporate sponsored insurance covers or not.
Any insight about which plan would provide cover for her health?
Mr.Ashish,
Though Health Insurance Companies have started to cover hospitalization expenses related to mental disorders such as Schizophrenia with effect from 2018, getting a new retail/personal health insurance policy for members with such pre-existing history shall be extremely difficult.
You must check with your Corporate Health Insurance company if they offer coverage for pre-existing diseases & if yes the extent of coverage for mental illness & psychiatric disorders.
Corporate Health Insurance plans are tailor-made plans & hence insurance companies do take the liberty to structure the policy in line with the specific requirements of your employer. Hence before we come to any conclusion about the scope of coverage under the group insurance plan, please crosscheck with the provider for further details & sub-limits if any for such treatments.
I would strongly recommend that you begin building a medical corpus through a systematic investment plan to ensure that a contingency fund is available for any unforeseen emergencies in the future.
Best Wishes,

Your employer may cover it, as all PEDs are usually covered - from my understanding.
For a pvt health plan mental ailments as a PED are usually not covered by insurers owing to certain foreseeable risks that they anticipate.
