Hi Experts,
This is Srinivas, 42 years old, working in MNC. I have a wife of 38Y and a kid of 8Y. I have taken a health insurance policy in 2018 "HDFC Ergo Optima Restore family floater" for 3 of us, with a base cover of 5 lacs, and now it with no claim benefit become (5 + 5)Lacs.
Now my insurance agent is suggesting switching to "HDFC Ergo Optima Secure Floater".
Now I don't have clarity on whether should I move or not. By the way, our family along with our parents are covered in-office corporate insurance cover.
Please suggest me, how can I proceed and also suggest if there are any alternate solutions.
Thanks in advance,
Srinivas

Hi Srinivas,
Considering you are from Tier 2 region and not Tier 1 (i.e. Mumbai, NCR, etc.), the premiums would work out like this
Optima Restore (OR) (without protector rider which gives coverage for consmables/non-payables) ₹20,209
Optima Restore (OR) (with protector rider which gives coverage for consmables/non-payables) ₹22,230
Optima Secure (OS) 2x coverage (with inbuilt consumables cover): ₹21,523
In your case, it makes sense to migrate to OS plan (subject to your current health condition) as it gives your double the cover, guaranteed bonus, consumables cover, ayush cover and few other benefits at a lower price. Although, please note that the premium of OS plan increases every year as per individual age (42,38,8 ; 43,39,9; 44,40,10, etc) whereas the OR plan premiums increases as per individual's age slab i.e (36-45, 46-50, etc). In the long term though, the premium difference doesn't matter much as for some years OS will be higher and for some years OR will be higher.
Also do add the newly launched unlimited restoration rider available at about ₹108 extra.
Thank you,
Avinash Sonee
