Smoker/drinker healthinsurance.
Hello,
What are the implication of cost and affect of health insurance for smoker and drinker.
Thank you.
Hello Vikrant,
There are no standard cost implications in health insurance for smokers. You don't get charged differentially as a smoker. However, insurers ask detailed questions about your lifestyle habits including smoking habits to ascertain the risk they are covering. In case someone smokes excessively - like 10 cigarettes a day, depending on your age, you could be asked for additional medical tests or additional premium or both. Some insurers may even decline the cover, of the declaration of a bad smoking habit is coupled with other lifestyle conditions like being overweight or having a chronic disease.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
