Hi everyone,

My mother ,46 age, no PED ,is insured with HDFC ergo optima secure with SI of 5 lakhs. it offers total coverage of 10 lakhs on first day itself. I am looking for super top up for her .

I looked for hdfc medsure plan for 20 lakhs coverage with deductible of 5 lakhs , ii has some unique features like constant premium after 60 years , but one major drawback I read is it doesn't offer modern treatment coverage , it's nowhere mentioned in policy wording and I re-confirmed it from hdfc customer care also . I was looking for hdfc because it is the same company as my main insurance and will offer seamless claim experience. But No modern treatment cover and 10%copay after 80age is kind of restrictive .

So please help me with ur suggestion for

1) does modern treatment should be in given top most priority or it can be neglected ? My focus on modern treatment is because only this treatments will require super top use otherwise for normal treatment base plan of 10lakhs will be always sufficient .

2) Please also tell me if hdfc medsure covers modem treatment or not ?( my inquiry may be wrong )

3)Any possibility that hdfc will revise the plan to include modern treatments as IRDAI also has mandated companies to include modern treatment

4)Any other better and affordable alternative to hdfc (except niva bupa , had bad experience with it )

Hi,

  1. The term modern is a relative word. Some of these treatments were modern earlier but not any more. So, yes, modern treatment coverage is very much required as I'm already seeing few claims for modern treatments.
  2. I don't see 'modern treatments as excluded' in the Medisure policy wordings as such.
  3. As per IRDAI, all companies have to include modern treatments (with or without sub-limits) and since there is no mention of sub-limits or exclusion, modern treatments will be covered.
  4. There are many plans in the market like Bajaj Allianz Extra Care Plus, Tata AIG Medicare Plus, ICICI Lombard Heath Booster, Star Health Super Surplus Gold, Liberty General Supra, Royal Sundaram Advanced Top-up etc.

HDFC Ergo itself is soon going to launch higher deductible options in Optima Secure plan. (I think up to 5 lakhs deductible or even more)

When is the renewal date of the current base policy? If there is still time of couple of months for renewal, you can wait and check the premiums of this and then decide. Otherwise, for now, decide from other available plans.

Thank you
