A relative, 35 years old applied for Bajaj Term Insurance, however the same was declined due to him having hemolytic anemea - G6PD.

He had an issue because of this way back in 1997, after that no issues at all.

Please suggest what can be done now? Any other insurance company that will provide cover?

Hi Ravi,

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase shortly termed as G6PD deficiency is a Genetic Disorder that affects red blood cells. The most common medical problem associated with this condition is that the body's red blood cells are destroyed faster than the body can replace them.

Though it is not a serious condition in most cases, Insurance companies do take a very cautious approach while underwriting any case related to Genetic Disorders or other types of anemias other the regular iron deficiency anemia cases.

My suggestion, in this case, is to try with a few other insurance companies including LIC of India by declaring this condition & check for the possibility of getting cover.

Meanwhile, take the advice of a good financial planner & begin building a corpus for future medical & financial requirements.

Best Wishes,
