Term plan conditions self inflicted injury
Sir namaste
My friend has donated liver to his father . He has term plan with metlife prior to such operation. Does this impact his policy payout adversely in case of his untimely death (just for example). Alternatively does liver donation comes under self inflicted injury??
Irrespective of the number of years that have elapsed in the policy, it is always best to disclose to the insurer that such donation has been made to avoid any claim issues in the future.
Contradictory opinion by all the experts. Please guide.
Namaste Aman,
Hope you are doing well! The donation of a liver or any organ as a matter of fact will not create any problem at the time of claim settlement in term insurance. As rightly pointed out by Niraj, it is always better to disclose such details to the insurer to experience a smooth claim settlement. To answer your second question, a liver donation does not fall under the category of self-inflicted injury. Any organ transplantation is performed by a professional medical practitioner where hospitalization is required.
Hope this helps!
Thanks!
This is not a self inflicted injury, as these procedures are done by doctors.
Suicide within first policy year is not covered under term insurance. Post first year, any type of death is covered
