Hello Mr. Ram,

As per the IRDA circular released in 2020 all the existing health insurance policies whichever companies they are issued by have Corona cover for treatment. The insurers came up with two plans Corona Kavach and Corona Rakshak. If one has a comprehensive health insurance cover then they need not buy corona kavach. However, Corona Rakshak is a fixed benefit plan which pays the sum assured on diagnosis of Corona which is a separate fixed benefit plan which pays the amount based on the sum assured irrespective of the expenses related to treatment already paid by indemnity plans be it a comprehensive health insurance plan or Corona Kavach.

These plans were launched to cover the citizens who don't have an existing health cover.

Dear Ram

Health insurance are of two types

1. Reimbursement as per expense

2. Fixed benefit on occurence of specified disease

Normal Health insurance is reimbursement or cashless .

Whereas Carona plans are fixed benefit plan which means a fixed amount will be paid .

In case of carona , health insurance would reimburse the expenses paid for treatment .

Carona plan would pay the fixed amount .

So policy holder can avail benefits from both plans .
