Buying Health Insurance From Aditya Birla? | A Review
Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co. Limited is a part of Aditya Birla Capital Ltd. and was incorporated in 2015. The insurance company offers a wide range of insurance products like health and wellness plans, cancer secure plans, critical illness plans, personal accident plans, corporate health insurance plans for the wellbeing of employees, international health insurance plans, etc.
They’ve mentioned on their website that they want to become a brand that customers will not only trust but also happily endorse.
To test this out, our research team went through a health insurance customer’s actual journey through a mystery shopping audit. How was the experience? Is Aditya Birla Health Insurance good? What are the pros and cons of purchasing health insurance from Aditya Birla?

Products Arranged Systematically 👍
The products listed on Aditya Birla’s website are easily discoverable. The details of all the products are available right below the names of the plans and if you want to learn more about a product, you just need to click on the ‘View Plan’ button.
Policy Wordings & Brochure 👍
When you click on the ‘View Plan’ button, you’ll be redirected to another page which mentions the details of the product and has an option to download the policy wording and brochure of the insurance plan.
No Spamming & Chasing 👍
When we were scanning the insurance products listed on the website, we did receive two calls from Aditya Birla’s representatives. However, once an advisor was assigned to us, we did not receive any unsolicited calls or messages from the insurance company.
Dedicated Advisor 👍
The advisor who was assigned to us gave us detailed insights about the features, terms & conditions, limitations of the health insurance products listed on the website, Aditya Birla health insurance renewal, claims, cancellation and other processes. All our queries and doubts related to the plan we chose were resolved quickly too.
Smooth Payment Experience 👍
The advisor guided us throughout the payment process and our payment was completed over a single call. Also, all payment options like credit and debit cards, net banking, EMI options, wallets, UPI, etc. are available on Aditya Birla’s website.
Quick Policy Issuance 👍
Right after we made the payment, we got the soft copy of our health insurance policy in our mailbox. The hardcopy, too, was delivered to us within a week of making the payment.
Claims Process Explanation 👍
The advisor told us we could download the insurance company’s Activ Health app for claim-related purposes. He guided us on how to go about making a claim and explained the cashless and reimbursement claims processes, the list of documents that would be required at the time of claim, etc. in detail to us.
Policy Cancellation & Refund 👍
The advisor explained the entire cancellation and refund process to us and told us to send an email to the insurance company to raise a request for cancellation. We did that, after which we received an email stating our cancellation request would be processed within 10 working days. After a few days, we called the advisor to know about the status of the cancellation and refund. The advisor told us the refund would be credited to our account within 3-4 days and two days later, we got our refund.
Premium Payment Options 👎
At the time of making the payment, we found out that only two premium paying options are available with the insurance company - annual and EMI. Quarterly & half-yearly premium paying options are not available.
Free Look Period Details Available On The Website 👎
The free look period details are not available on the website. You’ll have to go through the policy wordings of the plan you’re purchasing for the free look period details.
Change Request 👎
Generally, there are two types of endorsement - financial and non-financial. A financial endorsement includes making changes to the policy term, adding riders, etc. and it can only be done at the time of renewal. A non-financial endorsement includes making non-payment related changes, i.e., changing the email ID, mobile number, address, etc. and it can be done in the middle of the policy term too.
At the time of product explanation, the advisor said we could add riders to our policy after 15 days of making the payment. After we completed the payment, we told the advisor that we wanted to opt for riders. He, however, told us riders could be added only on policy renewal.
We tried explaining to the advisor that he had clearly mentioned to us we could add riders within 15 days of purchasing the policy. He, however, wasn't ready to accept this. He told us we were mistaken and that a financial endorsement could only be done at the time of policy renewal.
We then decided to proceed with a non-financial endorsement. We told the advisor we wanted to make changes to our name. The advisor told us we could do that through the insurance company’s app - he assisted us over a call on how we could proceed and change our name.
The insurance company can make the entire experience smooth for the customers if -
- Quarterly and semi-annually premium payment options are provided.
- Free look period details are mentioned at the same place where other details of the insurance products are available on the website.
- The advisors have thorough knowledge about all the facets of purchasing a policy, especially endorsements in this case. This will help reduce confusion and loss of trust from a customer perspective.
Besides these three things, we did not face any hiccups in our health insurance purchase journey with Aditya Birla -
- The website was user-friendly
- Products were arranged systematically
- The advisor guided us throughout the purchase and payment process
- The advisor ensured that our refund was processed quickly

Hi team, Just a suggestion While giving review of products usually your review covers only ease of getting policy, response and website part. Rather more important part like reviews from customers is missing. For example I checked lot of YouTube comments (although not very reliable) blaming Aditya Birla company for not giving claim in time and also rejection of claims Thanks 🙏

Could you cover additional points like claim settlement ratio and claim settlement experience? A lot of reviews on Quora say that when it comes to claims you will be bogged down by several questions and claim experience is really pathetic.
